How does our current system work?
What might a better system look like?
Our Current Health Systems are sub-optimized. Each of the different sectors—public health, healthcare, non-profits, businesses, policy makers, educators and researchers—pursue their own objectives at the expense of what we really want. In "The Current System" diagram, notice how each sector works within rigid boundaries to pursue its own objectives.
An Optimal System would look much different. As actors in a health system, we would seek to break down the boundaries between sectors, emphasize trans-disciplinary collaboration and ongoing feedback, and work relentlessly toward what we really want—equity, wellness, efficiency, population health, etc.
